Blizzard used its latest Sanctuary Sitdown Q&A to reveal some of the biggest systemic changes Diablo 4 has made in months, with the headline being a full overhaul of how Mythic items work heading into the next season.

A Full Mythic Unique Overhaul

The biggest change coming out of the Sitdown is that any Unique item can now drop or be crafted as a Mythic. When it does, its affixes roll at their maximum value (short of Greater Affix rolls) and its signature unique power is boosted by 30%. The Horadric Cube can also modify these new Mythics directly, giving players a real crafting path toward their ideal Mythic roll instead of relying purely on luck.

To keep the older, hand-designed Mythic items relevant and distinct, Blizzard is renaming them Iconic Mythics. Some of these were nerfed as part of the pass, and unlike the new system, the Cube cannot modify them. Blizzard confirmed that Uniques dropping as Mythics is a permanent system change, though full Mythic crafting will likely stay limited to the new season for balance reasons.

Charms, Seals, and a Reworked Realmwalker

Blizzard also acknowledged that several Charms and Seals have been underperforming, with more support planned for both systems going forward. One concrete fix lands immediately: the Seal of the Golden Epiphany has had its downside removed, so it now simply lets players equip three Unique Charms with no penalty attached.

The new seasonal loop revolves around Ruptures that build toward a Realmwalker encounter. Surging Ruptures can replace any Helltide event and alert every player in the zone, while Colossal Ruptures tie into a new seasonal Lair Boss near Zarbinzet, spawn on a fixed timer, and guarantee a Realmwalker fight. The Realmwalker encounter itself has been reworked to feel closer to a proper World Boss fight, and Reapers from Diablo 3 are confirmed as the primary enemies players will be fighting through the loop.

Quality-of-Life Changes and What is Still Unconfirmed

A handful of smaller quality-of-life changes were also discussed: Hordes will reward more XP, Aether scaling on Reward Chests is being boosted, and Mephisto’s cutscenes will become skippable (though none of these are confirmed for the initial PTR build). Account-bound War Plans are under investigation but not yet confirmed, and no Loot Filter changes are planned for the new season despite ongoing player feedback.

Blizzard also addressed Solo Self-Found (SSF) mode, clarifying that it only restricts partying and trading — SSF players will still see other players in the open world, including during Helltides and World Boss fights. On the competitive side, Blizzard called leaderboard integrity a “top priority” but has not yet decided whether the Tower leaderboard will wipe when it leaves Beta.

Players who want to try the new Mythic system and Realmwalker loop for themselves can find Diablo 4 on Steam.
