FFXIV Job Tier List (Patch 7.55): Gunbreaker, Viper, and Reaper Lead the Dawntrail Meta

FFXIV Job Tier List (Patch 7.55)
Patch 7.55 is the current tuning pass for Final Fantasy XIV’s Dawntrail expansion, and the job rankings below are built from 95th-percentile parse data on the AAC Heavyweight savage tier — the most reliable snapshot of which jobs are actually pulling their weight in current content. As always in FFXIV, “bottom tier” doesn’t mean unplayable; the game’s balance philosophy keeps every job clearable, but these are the picks putting up the strongest numbers right now.
Tanks: Gunbreaker Leads, but Bring Utility Too

Gunbreaker leads raw damage output among tanks by a clear margin, though it demands high execution to hit its ceiling. Warrior sits right behind it after a Patch 7.5 buff strengthened its burst window, and it’s dramatically easier to play well. Paladin offers mid-tier damage with strong utility and low execution demands, making it the safest pick for progression groups. Dark Knight rounds out the role with mid-tier damage but a higher execution ceiling than Paladin for similar reward.
Tank value isn’t purely about the parse, though — mitigation profile and utility matter as much as damage, so a lower-damage tank with better cooldown coverage for your static can easily be the better pick.
Healers: Two Lanes, Not One Ranking

Healers split into two functional lanes rather than a single hierarchy. In the barrier lane, Scholar offers the highest utility of any healer in the game, while Sage received meaningful potency buffs in Patch 7.5 that closed the gap. In the pure lane, White Mage puts out the strongest raw healing numbers, while Astrologian’s party-wide Divination buff gives it a damage contribution the other pure healer can’t match. Pick based on what your static needs — raw throughput or damage-boosting utility — rather than a strict tier order.
DPS: Viper and Reaper Set the Pace in Melee

Viper is a selfish but consistently high-damage melee DPS that picked up a further buff in Patch 7.5, making it one of the strongest personal-damage picks in the game right now. Reaper sits right behind it with a huge front-loaded burst window that shows up near the top of most parse snapshots, especially on fights with early damage checks. Among the ranged casters, Black Mage remains the selfish, high-ceiling pick ranked purely on personal damage, while Pictomancer trades some personal output for party-wide buffs and strong mobility.
Ordering within any role shifts constantly as tuning, gear, and the size of each fight’s parse dataset mature over a patch’s lifespan — treat this as a snapshot of Patch 7.55’s current data rather than a permanent hierarchy.
