Final Fantasy Resonance Is Now Available for Pre-Purchase Ahead of Its October 22 Launch
An HD-2D Final Fantasy, Rebuilt From the Ground Up
Square Enix has opened pre-purchases for Final Fantasy Resonance, its HD-2D reimagining of the mobile game Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, ahead of an October 22, 2026 launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. It’s the first mainline-adjacent Final Fantasy entry to use the HD-2D visual style Square Enix built its reputation on with Octopath Traveler and the Live A Live remake.
A Bigger, Rebuilt Story
Rather than a straight remaster, Resonance “extensively rebuilds and reimagines” its source material’s content for a full retail release. The story follows knight-protagonist Rain and airship commander Lasswell as they cross paths with Fina, a mysterious girl wielding white magic and archery, while facing off against Veritas of the Dark, an antagonist bent on destroying every crystal in the world.
Combat Built Around Staggers and Visions
Battles use a timeline-based turn order where exploiting elemental weaknesses staggers enemies, locking out their actions and lowering their defense. Stagger every enemy in a fight at once and you trigger a “sweeping stagger,” which grants your party extra turns and unlocks vision-specific Resonance techniques for big damage, area attacks, or buffs. Characters also equip Visions — crystallized essences of other characters, including classic heroes like the Warrior of Light, Terra, Cloud, Shantotto, and Y’shtola — to borrow their abilities and stat boosts.

The Standard Edition covers the base game, the $59.99 Digital Deluxe Edition adds the Magitek Armor Key, an exclusive Grimoire, and starter items, and a $209.99 Collector’s Edition bundles a physical Standard copy with the Digital Deluxe upgrade, acrylic character blocks, an art book, and a 120-track soundtrack CD.
