AION 2 launched globally on PC via Steam on October 5, 2026 with eight playable classes, and with real damage-meter data now rolling in from the first few weeks, a clear tier picture is forming for both PvE dungeons and solo PvP. Here is how every class stacks up right now — though expect some shifts as NCSoft tunes the early meta over the coming months.
PvE Tier List
S Tier
- Chanter (Staff) — currently the #1 class on PvE damage meters. It blends melee DPS with party-wide buffs and an emergency heal all in one kit. Its signature buff, Undefeated Mantra, gives the whole group +10.5% PvE damage and damage tolerance. High skill ceiling, high reward.
- Templar (Longsword and Shield) — the only true main tank in the game. It holds enemy aggro better than any other class and has tools to share incoming damage with allies, making it the pick in front of hard dungeon bosses with enrage timers.
- Cleric (Mace) — the only dedicated healer class. Its buff, Light of Protection, matches Chanter’s +10.5% group damage and tolerance bonus. Cleric puts out the lowest personal damage of all eight classes, but gets invited to groups fastest — a skilled Cleric with modest gear beats an overgeared DPS for most group slots.
A Tier
- Ranger (Bow) — the best damage uptime of any class thanks to full mobility; it never has to chase a target. One of the easiest classes to pick up, with real endgame potential.
- Sorcerer (Spellbook) — dominant in long fights where it can hold position and cast freely. Its Hellfire ability is considered one of the strongest single abilities in the game, but Sorcerer is squishy and loses a lot of value whenever a fight forces repositioning.
- Gladiator (Greatsword) — performs better than most expected at launch. Strong AoE and durability let it work as a secondary tank on known farms, and it stays relevant from beginner content all the way into endgame.
- Assassin (Dagger) — one of the highest skill ceilings in AION 2. Community analysts expect a damage buff in an upcoming patch, which would make it a strong long-term investment.
B Tier
- Spiritmaster (Orb) — sustained damage-over-time through a summoned spirit, so much of its output runs passively. Good for players on higher ping since the summon attacks on its own, but an average Spiritmaster falls well behind other DPS classes in a straight damage race.

Solo PvP Tier List
S Tier
- Assassin — widely considered the best 1v1 class in the game. Stealth openers like Ambush and Shadowstrike set up back-attack combos that can delete a target before they react. The catch: combo timing falls apart above roughly 100ms ping, so it is a high-risk, high-reward pick.
- Gladiator — wins long-term duels through lifesteal, gap closers, and raw durability rather than burst damage. Very hard to kite once it locks on, and far more forgiving of bad ping than Assassin.
A Tier
- Spiritmaster — its fear crowd-control is considered one of the strongest in the game, locking opponents out of their rotation entirely. A genuine surprise pick for open-world PvP.
- Templar — nearly impossible to burst down in an even-gear duel, and its grapple can pull an opponent out of formation during sieges. It lacks real kill pressure solo, so it shines brighter in coordinated group PvP.
- Ranger — safe range and strong kiting tools make it hard to pressure in a straight duel, though coordinated dive compositions can still shut it down.
B Tier
- Sorcerer — hits very hard from range, but any melee class that closes the distance forces it off its casting rhythm fast.
- Chanter — flexible, but pure damage classes outperform it in a straight 1v1. It earns its place in premade group PvP instead of solo queue.
C Tier
- Cleric — nearly unkillable one-on-one through pure sustain, but struggles to actually kill anything on its own. Its value jumps dramatically in large-scale Abyss sieges, where sustained healing and cleansing can decide the fight.

Picking a class right now
It is worth remembering that this tier list reflects a meta that is barely a month old. Early analysis already points to a likely Chanter nerf and an Assassin buff in a future patch, and gear, build quality, and class knowledge will matter more than raw tier placement for most players. If you are deciding between a Templar for guaranteed group invites, a Gladiator for a forgiving beginner experience that still scales into endgame, or an Assassin for the highest PvP ceiling in the game, any of the three is a safe long-term investment while NCSoft continues tuning Atreia’s eight classes.
