Counter-Strike 2's November 5 Update Speeds Up Retakes and Lets You Ping Your Pet Chicken for Tricks

Valve pushed a new Counter-Strike 2 update on November 5, 2026, and while it doesn’t add a new map or weapon, it reshapes two things players feel every single round: how fast Retakes matches move, and how much personality your pet chicken is allowed to have.

Retakes Gets Faster Defuses and Shorter Downtime

The headline change lands in Retakes. A bomb defuse now finishes instantly when there’s sufficient time left in the round and no live utility (flashes, smokes, or grenades) that could realistically stop it, so you no longer sit through a full defuse animation when the round is already decided. Valve also tightened the pace around it: freeze time in Retakes dropped from 7 seconds to 5, and the round restart delay was cut from 5 seconds to 3. Datamined spawn files for all eleven Retakes maps also show every bot camera pitch reset to zero, with only yaw used going forward, a small fix that should stop awkward bot sightlines on reset.

Yes, You Can Now Ask Your Pet Chicken for Tricks

The other change is purely for fun: ping a pet chicken during freeze time and it will now perform a trick on request. If you’d rather keep your chicken’s identity private, setting the Customized Item Text option to hidden will also hide its name. Pet chickens, for anyone who missed it, were quietly added back in the September 22 Rush Hour update and have become one of CS2’s more beloved pieces of set dressing.

Workshop Creators Get a Scripting Overhaul

Mapmakers and Workshop creators get a scripting pass alongside all this: Instance.Precache now accepts entities, a new top-level Entities export adds Entities.Spawn, and several older functions, including EntFireAtName, FindEntitiesByName, and FindEntitiesByClass, have been renamed under the new Entities namespace. The old names still work for now, but Valve has marked them deprecated.

None of this changes which skins are worth chasing, but if you’re topping up your account for a case key or two before the next operation, grabbing a Steam Wallet Code (US) or a Steam Wallet Code (UA) through Dragon4Deals is an easy way to fund your Steam balance without touching a card. You can grab Counter-Strike 2 for free right now on Steam if you haven’t already.
