Deadlock's Comeback and Parry Rework Lands as Valve Teases a Bigger Update for Late September

Valve’s free hero-brawler Deadlock received a meaningful balance patch on September 16, 2026, and developer Yoshi has since confirmed the next major content update is targeting late September after mounting pressure from the community on Discord.

Comeback Mechanics Now Scale With Match Length

The September 16 patch reworked how comeback mechanics scale with match length. Unstable Rift’s comeback resist used to max out at a flat 35%; it now scales from 10% up to 1% per minute as a game goes on. Objective rewards were rebalanced too, with Guardian bounties increased 10% and Walker bounties up 5%, both aimed at keeping losing teams in contention for longer.

Parry and Movement Changes

Parry and movement both saw notable adjustments. Using parry now pauses weapon reloading, and parrying during a regular dash cancels the dash and its momentum, snapping the parry to a stationary position instead. Globally, all move-slow values were reduced by roughly 20%, and air drag now scales with slow effects rather than applying flatly.

Item Rebalance: Spiritual Overflow and Mercurial Magnum Nerfed

Item balance shifted meaningfully as well. Spiritual Overflow was hit with a 35% slower buildup and had its Spirit Power reduced from 40 to 30, while Mercurial Magnum’s damage scaling dropped from 0.49 to 0.38. Restorative Locket was weakened, but Lifestrike came out ahead, with its heal-on-melee-hit increased from 100+1.5 to 120+1.75. Shadow Weave was restructured entirely to build out of Sprint Boots instead of its previous base item.

Hero Adjustments

On the hero side, Celeste took nerfs across multiple abilities, Silver got a mobility boost with sprint speed raised to 2.5, Lash saw reduced gun range and reworked ability scaling, Wraith’s Card Trick was significantly toned down, and Viscous picked up cooldown and range adjustments to his core kit.

What's Next

As for what’s next, Yoshi was blunt about expectations: this delay isn’t about expanded scope, just the team’s normal testing and iteration cycle taking longer than planned, and players shouldn’t expect “dramatic new modes, map redesigns, or meta-altering shakeups” in the immediate update. The timeline comes seven months after Old Gods, New Blood, the update that added six additional heroes to the roster.

Deadlock is still invite-gated on Steam for PC, so if you’re waiting on an invite or just want to top up for the marketplace, a Steam Wallet Code or a browse through Dragon4Deals’ Steam gift card selection and PC game deals is a good place to start.
