Madden NFL 27 Is Live With a New Persona Engine — And Steam Reviews Are Split

Madden NFL 27 Launches Worldwide
Madden NFL 27 officially released worldwide on August 13, 2026, following early access windows on August 6 (MVP+) and August 10 (Deluxe/MVP Bundle owners). It shipped simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via the EA app, Steam, and Epic Games Store, with Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams on the cover. Developed by Tiburon and published by EA, it’s priced at $69.99 for the Standard Edition, $99.99 for Deluxe, and $149.99 for the MVP Bundle that pairs it with College Football 27 Deluxe.
What's New: The Persona Engine
The headline addition is the “Persona Engine,” which assigns every NFL athlete one of 65+ personality types that shapes how they negotiate, develop, and react inside Franchise mode. On the field, Madden 27 adds realistic receiver-defender hand-fighting and leverage, a new timing-based catch mechanic, dynamic weather, stadium traditions, and an expanded “G.O.A.T. Career Journey” take on Superstar mode.
Steam Reviews Are Mixed
Critical reception has landed positive-with-caveats: ScreenRant scored it 7/10, calling Franchise mode “arguably as good as it has ever been” while blasting Ultimate Team’s “hyper-aggressive monetization.” On Steam, user reviews currently sit around 43-44% positive out of 186 reviews, with recurring complaints about overpowered defensive AI, a missing draft-class import feature, and the cut of Superstar KO mode from this year’s release.
