No Man’s Sky just turned 10, and Hello Games marked the milestone by confirming record player numbers and shipping its biggest free update in a while. The Cosmos update, live now on PC via Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and VR platforms, adds space station ownership and player-run alliances to a game that has spent a decade adding systems like this one for free.

Own a station, build an alliance

Players can now become directors of their own space stations after proving themselves to local authorities, customizing the central lobby, adding new rooms, and decorating the exterior. Hello Games calls it “a personal clubhouse that friends can visit” and says it has been the studio’s most requested feature since launch. Station directors can also found alliances with custom names and banners, inviting other players to join and competing on leaderboards for territory size, wealth, and station network prominence.

A decade of free updates, and more on the way

Cosmos also adds derelict space hulks with salvageable (and explosive) metal resources, biologically contaminated sites that need clearing, space outposts that function as trading hubs, asteroid belts with buildable structures, free-floating modular bases, and a new objective that sends players to the center of a star. A tenth-anniversary expedition called “Our Journey Continues” adds 40 developer-created milestones for returning players to chase. Hello Games has already confirmed it’s not stopping there, with another update already in early planning.

Whichever platform you explore in, a Steam Wallet Code (US) tops up your PC wallet for DLC and other purchases, a PSN Gift Card (US) covers PlayStation, and a Xbox Game Pass Ultimate (US) code gets you into the Xbox version along with hundreds of other games.
