Once Human's Isles of Abyss Expansion Turns the Ocean Into a Playable Battlefield This October 21

Starry Studio has set October 21 as the release date for Isles of Abyss, the next major expansion for Once Human, and it centers on a feature the community has been asking for since launch: a fully playable ocean. The developers call it the biggest expansion the game has had to date, and rather than being a separate instanced map, the ocean is woven directly into the existing survival world.

Your Ship Becomes a Floating Fortress

The headline mechanic turns each player’s ship into a floating fortress. Ships are highly customizable, from purely practical builds to luxurious ones, and players can start from existing templates and build outward. Naval combat lets players fire and upgrade ship-mounted weapons, and for closer encounters, players can dive straight into the water and fight sea beasts with their own guns, stripping away tentacles before the main creature can be taken down.

What's Lurking Beneath the Surface

Developers have cited the Kraken and other mythological sea monsters, including a creature called the Sunken Lord, as inspiration for what’s lurking beneath the surface, and a mechanical sea creature with enormous tentacles has already shown up in early demos. By the team’s own account, the ocean was part of the original design plan for Once Human, but had felt empty; Isles of Abyss is the response to players who said exactly that.

Getting Ready for October 21

Once Human is free-to-play on Steam, but ship customization, cosmetics, and other in-game purchases run on real money. A Steam Wallet Code (Global) or Steam Wallet Code (US) from Dragon4Deals is an easy way to fund your account before Isles of Abyss lands.
