SNK Announces Metal Slug Ultimate Collection for Steam, Bundling Every Mainline Game Including a Never-Released Prototype
SNK has announced Metal Slug Ultimate Collection for Steam, bundling every mainline entry in the run-and-gun series into one package — including The Metal Slug Location Test Version, a prototype that has never been officially released. SNK hasn’t locked a price yet, but it’s targeting a 2027 launch window.
Every Mainline Metal Slug, Plus a Lost Prototype
The collection spans Metal Slug (1996) through Metal Slug 7 (2008), including Metal Slug 2, X, 3, 4, 5, and the Game Boy Advance spin-off Metal Slug Advance. The headline inclusion is the Location Test Version, an unreleased prototype build that collectors have chased for years. Several of these games already sell individually on Steam, but this is the first time SNK has packaged the full lineage together, prototype included.
Each game supports online score rankings, a gallery/museum mode with logos and visual materials, quick save, quick load, and rewind. SNK is also adding score attack and time attack modes plus a Combat School Mode aimed at players who’ve never picked up a Metal Slug game before, though SNK notes available features vary by title.
Release Window and Where to Buy
Metal Slug Ultimate Collection is confirmed for Steam, with Proton/Wine support already listed for Linux players, and a launch sometime in 2027. You can wishlist it now on the Steam store page. For when it lands, a Steam Wallet Code (US) is the easiest way to have funds ready, and our PC games category has the individual Metal Slug titles you can play while you wait.
