Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV: Everything We Know About the RTS Revival

After years of fan requests, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is real, confirmed for PC via Steam sometime in 2026. Here’s everything that’s been confirmed so far about the long-awaited return of one of the genre’s most beloved RTS franchises.
A New Studio at the Helm
Relic Entertainment, the studio behind the original trilogy, is not involved this time. Development has instead gone to KING Art Games, with Deep Silver publishing. The team has been vocal about wanting to “wash the bad taste” of the divisive Dawn of War III out of fans’ mouths by returning to the series’ classic mass-battle, base-building roots rather than chasing the MOBA-style design of the third game.
Four Launch Factions and a Returning Last Stand
Dawn of War IV launches with four playable factions: the Space Marines (represented by the Blood Ravens and Dark Angels chapters), the Orks, the Necrons, and the Adeptus Mechanicus. On the content side, the game promises a campaign of more than 70 missions playable solo or in co-op, offline Skirmish matches against AI, 1v1/2v2/3v3 online multiplayer, and the fan-favorite horde mode Last Stand, which made its debut in Dawn of War II. The series’ beloved army painter customization tool is also confirmed to return.
Story-wise, Dawn of War IV is set roughly 200 years after the events of Dark Crusade, once again on the war-torn world of Kronus — a deliberate callback for longtime fans of the series.
Something to Play While You Wait
If you want to get reacquainted with Kronus before Dawn of War IV arrives, the original game got its own glow-up this year: Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition launched on Steam in August 2026 with remastered visuals, making it the easiest way to revisit the classic campaign ahead of the sequel.
