With the Dark Arisen expansion dropping a brutal new region on October 9, picking the right vocation matters more than ever. The Forsaken Dominion’s 12 dungeons are built for characters who already know what they’re doing, so here is the current vocation tier list and the builds worth leveling before you go in.

S+ Tier: Magick Archer

Magick Archer remains the best overall vocation in the game and the best-suited for Dark Arisen’s toughest encounters. Its hybrid kit mixes ranged weapon damage, spellcasting, and support utility, but the headline is Marty’s Bolt: a skill that trades your own max health for burst damage big enough to drop a dragon-class enemy in roughly five seconds. Against the expansion’s new heavy hitters, that kind of burst window is exactly what you want.

S Tier: Warfarer

Warfarer is the endgame flex pick, unlocked only after finishing the main story once. It lets you mix weapons and skills from two different vocations at the same time, which makes it the most customizable option in the game. The tradeoff is complexity and a steep unlock requirement, so it is better treated as a post-campaign reward build than a first run through the Forsaken Dominion.

A+ Tier: Mystic Spearhand

Available from early on, Mystic Spearhand blends offense and defense with genuinely versatile range, holding its own at both melee distance and slightly further out. It brings solid crowd control to messy dungeon fights, though it lacks a standout specialty the way Magick Archer or a pure Sorcerer does.

A Tier: Sorcerer and Warrior

Sorcerer brings some of the hardest-hitting single-target and area spells in the game if you can tolerate long cast times, while Warrior is the straightforward answer for players who want to stagger and stun through Dark Arisen’s new enemy types with pure physical force.

B+ to C+ Tier: Fighter, Archer, Mage, Thief, Trickster

Fighter sits at B+ and is the vocation most worth starting on, trading top-end damage for survivability and simplicity while you learn the game’s systems. Archer and Mage land in B tier as reliable, if unspectacular, ranged and support options. Thief (C) and Trickster (C+) are the weakest picks for a first run through the expansion’s harder content, better suited to players who already have a strong pawn team propping them up.

Recommended Starting Setup

If you are heading into Dark Arisen without an established build yet, start your Arisen as a Fighter for the survivability, pair them with a Mage pawn for healing, and round out the party with a ranged Archer and a damage-focused Thief. That foundation gives you enough flexibility to pivot into Magick Archer or Mystic Spearhand once you have the Forsaken Dominion’s new gear and relics in hand.
