Planet Zoo 2 Pre-Orders Are Live Ahead of October 13 Launch, Adding Aquariums, Aviaries, and Animal Rewilding

Frontier Developments has opened pre-purchases for Planet Zoo 2 on Steam ahead of its October 13, 2026 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel to one of the most enduring management sims on Steam is adding systems that genuinely change how you build and run a zoo, not just a visual refresh.
Aquariums, Aviaries, and a Lot More Detail
The biggest structural addition is the ability to properly house aquatic and flying species through new aquarium and aviary systems, something the original game never fully supported. Animal models also get a real fidelity bump, with Frontier calling out detailed fur, feathers, and scales across the roster. Confirmed species so far span the Blackspotted Puffer and Hawksbill Turtle for aquariums, White-tailed Eagle, Great Hornbill, and Toco Toucan for aviaries, and land animals including Red Deer, Masai Giraffe, Grey Wolf, Sumatran Tiger, and Eurasian Beaver.
Animal Moods and Conservation Mechanics
Animals now have shifting moods that change what they need from their keepers day to day, adding a layer of ongoing management beyond the original’s habitat-stat checklist. Planet Zoo 2 also leans harder into conservation framing by letting players release animals back into the wild as part of rewilding efforts, giving the career and sandbox modes an actual endpoint for successful breeding programs rather than an ever-growing enclosure list.
Editions and Release Details
Planet Zoo 2 launches October 13, 2026 with a Standard Edition at $49.99 and a Deluxe Edition at $64.99, and pre-purchases are live now on all three platforms. If you played the original, there is also expanded scenery and blueprint support for habitat building, so returning players should find the construction side of the game noticeably deeper. Still working through the original? Planet Zoo PC is worth picking up first, and a Steam Wallet Code (US) covers either game or the sequel’s pre-purchase.
