WARDOGS Sells 1 Million Copies in 24 Hours, Then Gets Review-Bombed Over Queue Times
Bulkhead’s 100-player tactical shooter WARDOGS launched into Steam Early Access on September 10, 2026, and converted almost its entire wishlist into buyers overnight, selling more than 1 million copies in its first 24 hours. Published by Team17, WARDOGS splits three rival teams into one 100-player battlefield built around tactical gunplay, combined-arms combat, base construction, and destruction. 1 Million Wishlists Convert to Sales Overnight
The million-copy milestone lines up almost exactly with WARDOGS’ pre-launch wishlist count, meaning nearly every player who wishlisted the game bought in the moment Early Access went live. The game emphasizes flexibility: players can lean into tactical gunplay, team support, or in-game economics, and destructible, buildable maps mean no two fights for the same objective play out the same way. PS5 and Xbox versions are planned, but not until 2028, leaving PC as the only way in for now.
Then the Servers Buckled
Success brought its own problem. As servers strained under the surge of new players, matchmaking queues stretched past an hour for a large share of players trying to get into a match, and Steam’s user review score dipped sharply as frustrated players left negative reviews citing wait times rather than the moment-to-moment gameplay. Bulkhead has acknowledged the queue issues publicly and is scaling up server capacity, but for now getting into a match during peak hours is the biggest obstacle between players and the game itself.
