Helldivers 2’s Devoid of Liberty Update Just Landed — And So Did PS Plus Extra

Helldivers 2 just shipped its biggest content drop yet, and Sony timed it perfectly — the update landed the same week the game joined the PS Plus Extra and Premium catalog, putting Arrowhead’s co-op shooter in front of a huge new wave of players.
Devoid of Liberty (Patch 7.0.0)
Released August 12, the Devoid of Liberty update is one of the largest content drops in the game’s history:
- New Void Region — a mysterious galactic area with new mission types built around destroying enemy structures and running reconnaissance.
- Two new enemy types — the Wretch, a fast unit that disables your weapons, and the Crusher, a slow, self-regenerating heavy.
- Level cap doubled — from 150 to 300, adding 15 new ranks to grind through.
- SEAF NPC companions — friendly AI squadmates with distinct roles (Squad Leader, Medic, Rifleman, Specialist) that you can command mid-mission.
Now Free on PS Plus Extra
Helldivers 2 became available to PS Plus Extra and Premium subscribers on August 12, the same day as the update — a deliberate move to hook new players while the game is at its best. The shooter has drawn 22.9 million players across platforms since its February 2024 launch, and this is arguably the easiest entry point yet for anyone who’s been meaning to try it.
If you’re jumping in via PlayStation, a PSN Gift Card covers your PS Plus subscription or Super Store credits. On PC, grab the Helldivers 2 PC key directly, and keep a Steam Wallet Code topped up for the in-game Super Store’s premium Warbonds.
