No Man's Sky 'Cosmos' Update (v7.0) Launches With Space Hulks, Orbital Bases and Player Alliances

Hello Games has released Cosmos (v7.0), a free update to No Man’s Sky that went live on September 9, 2026 across PC and consoles. The update overhauls space travel from top to bottom, adding a new Star Map scanning system, salvageable derelict “Space Hulks,” tradeable Space Outposts, harvestable asteroid belts, and player-buildable Orbital Bases that can go up anywhere in the void. If you’ve been away from Euclid for a while, this is the update that finally makes deep space feel like a place worth living in rather than just flying through.
What's New in Cosmos
The centerpiece of Cosmos is a reworked Star Map, which now surfaces points of interest and mission strands as soon as a player warps into a new system, instead of leaving exploration to chance. Derelict Space Hulks can be boarded and salvaged for loot using physics-based mechanics, though over-harvesting risks a hulk exploding around you. New Space Outposts let players trade, gather intel, and pick up missions from alien inhabitants, while resource-rich asteroid belts are large enough in places to support full base construction. Perhaps the biggest structural change is Orbital Bases: modular stations players can now deploy anywhere in space for commercial or military purposes, alongside the ability to purchase and customize entire Space Stations as personal clubhouses. Cosmos also introduces Alliances, player-founded societies that support collaborative empire-building and leaderboard competition. Full patch details are on the official Steam store page. Since Cosmos is free for everyone who already owns the game, it’s also a good excuse for newcomers to jump in — a No Man’s Sky PC key picked up at a discount gets you the full Cosmos experience from day one.
Hotfixes and Patch Timeline
As with most major No Man’s Sky updates, Cosmos shipped with a wave of follow-up hotfixes throughout September 2026. Patch 7.01 addressed early stability issues, while later patches including 7.03 and 7.04 (released September 21) cleaned up mission bugs such as the Atlas Path repeatedly re-selecting itself and deep-space salvage mission tracking, fixed expedition text and reward issues, resolved space station and corvette claiming and docking problems, corrected settlement productivity and construction-terminal bugs, and improved memory usage and crash stability on Xbox One and Switch 2. Hello Games has said it is “listening closely” to player feedback and continues to take bug reports through Zendesk and console crash reporting.
Our Journey Continues: 40 Updates Strong
Cosmos arrives alongside a companion expedition, “Our Journey Continues,” which celebrates No Man’s Sky’s 40 major updates since its rocky 2016 launch, effectively acting as a museum walkthrough of the game’s history. It’s a fitting milestone for a game that has spent a decade rebuilding its reputation update by update. Stocking up on a Steam Wallet code is also a handy way to fund the expedition’s cosmetic rewards or grab other titles in the Steam category while you’re at it.
