Rust’s October 2026 Update Adds Livestock Farming and New Powergrid Loot Rooms
Facepunch Studios shipped Rust’s October 2026 monthly update on October 1, following its usual first-Thursday schedule, alongside a forced server wipe. The headline addition is farmable livestock, the first time players have been able to raise animals for resources rather than just hunting them.
Livestock Farming Arrives
Cows and sheep can now be farmed rather than only hunted in the wild. Animals can be found roaming the map or bought from vendors at Ranches and Large Barns, and once kept, they provide milk, wool, meat, and leather. Milk and cream can be combined with teas to create Milky and Creamy variants: Milky teas add calories and hydration and last longer, while Creamy teas hit harder but wear off faster.
New Items, Vendor Bartering, and Loot Rooms
The update also adds Skimmed Milk, Cream, Beef and Mutton meat, Wool, and two new recipes, Shepherd’s Pie and Beef Pie, plus a new vendor bartering mechanic. Cosmetic additions include decorative frogs, rabbits, squirrels, sea turtles, crabs, and jellyfish, a stackable sandbag deployable, a machete refresh, and a Plague Hazmat Suit skin. Facepunch also added new powergrid loot rooms to several monuments, including Launch Site, Missile Silo, and Water Treatment Plant, along with 11 new achievements, skinnable ladder hatches, and client-side prediction for thrown weapons.
Balance Changes
Oil Rig’s crude pumping now takes 15 minutes to start, and Power Plant heavy fuse decay now scales with server population, lasting four times longer on servers with 10 or fewer players while staying the same on servers at 100 or more. Water Wheel melee protection was greatly increased, the Air Wolf vendor at Bandit Camp won’t sell air vehicles until its helipad is repaired, horses drop much less dung, and remote-controlled turrets can now hit reactive targets.
Notable Fixes
The patch fixes a rare deep-sea client crash, campfires that were cooking some foods twice as fast as intended, battering rams hitting tool cupboards through walls, an Oil Rig crate duplication exploit, and several boat-related bugs.
